Box Score BALTIMORE – UMBC took a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning, but visiting Georgetown scored nine times in the middle innings and defeated the Retrievers, 10-2, in a non-conference baseball match-up at Alumni Field.
UMBC freshman pitcher
Nick Remy (Atkinson, N.H.) got the start and pitched four scoreless innings, fanning four and only allowing two hits. Junior catcher
Connor Kelly (Cumberland, Md.) made his UMBC debut on the mound and pitched two scoreless innings, while fanning four Hoyas.
Graduate student second baseman
Myles Nicholson (Hagerstown, Md.), who entered play as the 14th leading hitter in the nation with a .419 batting mark, produced his 17th multi-hit game of the season with a pair of singles.
Ubaldo Lopez homered twice and scored four runs for the Hoyas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMBC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, as catcher Tony Krueger led off with a single and took third on a Justin Taylor double. Krueger scored on a Logan Doran sacrifice fly.
- The Retrievers doubled the lead in the fourth, as Krueger led off with a walk and came around on an RBI double by Jayden Shertel.
- Georgetown scored three runs after two batters were retired in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. They added four in the sixth and two more in the seventh to build a 9-2 advantage.
The Retrievers will host Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
