HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMBC struck for two runs in the second inning. Krueger got his day started with a single to center, scoring Logan Doran, who led off the second with a base hit to left. With one out, Drew Roberts' safety to right field plated Taylor, who walked after Logan Doran's hit.
- After Retriever freshman starter Jayden Shertel got through the first three innings unscathed, the Great Danes broke through for three runs in the fourth. Colton Bare came to get the final out of the fourth inning, but the Retrievers trailed, 3-2.
- But UMBC answered in the bottom of the inning. Doran walked, Taylor singled, and Krueger belted a home run to right-center field to put the hosts on top, 5-3.
- Krueger walked with the bases loaded in the fifth to give UMBC a 6-3 advantage.
- Trailing 10-6, UMBC closed to within a run in the eighth. Krueger doubled in the eighth inning as UMBC loaded the bases with none out. Then, Drew Roberts doubled down the left field line, scoring two, but Nolan Charlton was thrown out at the plate. Roberts advanced to third on the throw, and Christian Easley brought him home with a sacrifice fly.
- The Danes added a solo home run in the top of the ninth for the final margin of victory.
