The UMBC baseball team heads down I-95 to tangle with Maryland on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The first pitch in the Terrapins' first home game of the season at Bob Smith Stadium is slated for 4:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 22, but pushed back a day due to a rainy forecast.
The Retrievers lost a pair of heartbreakers at Navy on Friday and Saturday. UMBC was one out away from victory on Friday and two outs shy on Saturday, but fell, 10-9, and 11-10, in 12 innings respectively.
UMBC hit .310 in the two-game set and stole seven bases in eight attempts. Graduate student second baseman Myles Nicholson (Hagerstown, Md.) produced five hits in nine at-bats, drove in five runs, scored four and swiped four bases in four attempts.
A Look at the Terrapins
- Maryland comes into Tuesday with a 3-0 record. They swept a three-game series when they traveled to Texas to face off against Big 12 opponent Baylor.

UMBC is slated to open the home schedule with weekend games versus St. Joseph's. Saturday's opener gets underway at 3:00 p.m.
