2022 Baseball Notebook
- The Retrievers produced a record of 17-26 in 2021, including a record of 12-16 in the America East Conference.
- UMBC started the season at 6-0, won three-of-four versus Hartford, split a pair of four games series versus Binghamton and split another at UAlbany.
- Sophomore infielder Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) earned America East All-Rookie Team honors a season ago. He collected 37 hits in 127 at bats with 30 runs scored, 10 doubles and 20 RBI. Roberts hit .291 with a .377 OBP.
- Senior outfielder Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the squad in hits (47), home runs (8), RBI (29), batting average (.346) and slugging percentage (.603)
- Senior outfielder Christian Easley (Collinsville, Va.) and senior infielder Nolan Charlton (Atlantic City, N.J.) both produced solid seasons in 2021. Easley hit .268 and stole successfully on 23-of-25 attempts, while Charlton recorded a .753 OPS.
- Sophomores Luke Johnson (Lewes, De.) and Joe Pucek (Morristown, N.J.) are UMBC's expected starters on the mound in Annapolis.
A Glance at the Midshipmen
- In 2021, the Midshipmen assembled a regular season record of 16-13, while going 11-12 in the Patriot League.
- UMBC leads the all-time series against the Midshipmen, 27-22. However, since 2018, Navy has won three of the last four meetings against the Retrievers.
- Senior Christian Policelli (Walkersville, Md.) received First Team All-Patriot League honors in 2021. Playing as a catcher and outfielder, Policelli recorded a team leading .340 batting average and was third on the team with 32 hits and 22 RBIs. Senior infielder Zach Stevens (Lexington, Mass.) acquired 2021 Second Team All-Patriot League honors. Stevens led the Midshipmen in slugging percentage (.500), doubles (8), and home runs (4).
