Men's Swimming and Diving Makes 2022-23 Debut Against Tough Delaware, Hopkins Squads

Divers Anders Logas and Dom Tobin finish 2-3 on the 1-meter board event.

Newark, Del. - The UMBC men's swimming and diving squad opened the 2022-23 campaign by competing in a double dual meet at the University of Delaware. NCAA Division III powerhouse Johns Hopkins also took part in the meet.

Sophomore J.J. Chapman earned bronze in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.25.

In a tight men's 50 freestyle, graduate student Tiago Asakawa, junior Bode Neale and senior Gabe Laracuente finished 3-4-5.

Freshman diver Anders Logas debuted in outstanding fashion, earning a second place finish on the 3-meter board with a mark of 262.05 and placed third on the 1-meter board with a score of 232.65. Junior Dom Tobin earned bronze on the 3-meter board at 243.23.

"It was great to get back in the pool again, racing and diving," said Head Coach Matt Donovan. "Kicking off the season with some of the best competition in the area shows us where we are and where we need to go in the coming months."

Both the men's and women's teams head to conference rival NJIT for a meet on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15. The men will face the host Highlanders and St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, while the women take on America East foe Vermont, along with the Terriers.
