Box Score BALTIMORE-- UMBC baseball honored nine seniors prior to their games against Stony Brook on Sunday. However, the two would only get in six innings before rain and lightning ended the afternoon early.
UMBC falls to 17-22, 12-22 AE while the Seawolves improve to 26-16, 22-9 AE on the year.
Stony Brook wasted little time getting a run in the top half of the first inning to take an early lead. That would be enough as the Retrievers struggled to get anything past Stony Brook starter Brian Herrmann.
The Retrievers would get runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings but could not cash in. UMBC got their first hit of the contest on an Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) single in the third and would get another in the sixth before the game was canceled.
Stony Brook scored five runs in the third to take the rain-shortened game, 6-0.
Diaz and Christian Easley (Collinsville, Va.) had the lone hits for the Retrievers.
UMBC honored their nine seniors before the game. Luke Belanger (Alexandria, Va.), Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel), Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James), Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.), Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.), Cameron Taylor (Leesburg, Va.), Ryan Cole (Endwell, N.Y.), Greg Albert (Medford, N.J.), and Max Goron (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) were honored for their efforts during their time at UMBC.
The Retrievers will conclude the regular season at NJIT next Friday and Saturday.
