Men's Lacrosse Seeks America East Regular Season Title at NJIT on Saturday

The UMBC Retriever men's lacrosse team (7-2, 6-2 America East) goes in search of their fifth America East Conference regular season title and the right to host next week's tournament champion when they conclude the regular season at NJIT (1-9, 1-7 AE) on Saturday, May 1. The opening face-off at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium takes place at noon, just after the Highlanders honor their 2020-21 seniors.

The game will be streamed via the America East digital network.

NJIT Athletics has a NO SPECTATOR/FAN Attendance policy for all indoor and outdoor competitions. There are no tickets available for visiting teams or families of NJIT student-athletes for all athletic home contests

Should they prevail, the Retrievers would be tied at 7-2 with the winner of the Stony Brook at Vermont contest. But UMBC has a 2-0 record versus the Seawolves and defeated the Catamounts in their lone 20-2021 match-up and would earn the top seed.

UMBC last captured a share of the regular season title in 2009. They also won it in 2005, 2006 and 2008. The Retrievers' America East Tournament championships have occurred in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2019.

  • Before it was snapped in the 8-7 overtime loss at Binghamton, UMBC's seven-game winning streak was the second-longest in its NCAA Division I history (1981). The program's longest streak ever of 11 in a row occurred in 2008.
  • The Retrievers are tied for 11th nationally in scoring defense, holding foes to 9.44 goals per contest. UMBC is tenth in man-down defense, having killed off 17 of 23 opponent chances.
  • Sophomore A/M Nick Dupuis (Alexandria, Va.) was selected to the USILA Team of the Week on March 9. Dupuis scored a man-up goal with 1:09 to play in the fourth overtime period to end the longest game in school history on March 7.
