Dante Marinello of UMBC men's lacrosse was named the program's recipient of the inaugural Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, it was announced today by the IMLCA. The award was created this year to honor former Siena head coach Liam Gleason, who passed away this past offseason. The award is given to one student-athlete at each Division I men's lacrosse program who exemplifies leadership, unwavering support for teammates & staff, outstanding sportsmanship, and meaningful community involvement.
A senior captain for the Retrievers this season, Marinello is set to graduate later this week with a degree in Financial Economics. The Watchung, N.J. native adds another accolade to an impressive career that saw him earn All-America East Second Team honors as a defenseman in 2025 and 2026. The veteran also earned his second career nod to the All-Academic Team as well.Â
For his career, Marinell started 36 of the 39 games he participated in. He scored four goals and added one assist, while causing 37 turnovers, and picking up 62 ground balls.Â
