Retrievers Rack Up America East All-Conference Honors

BOSTON - UMBC men's lacrosse placed three athletes on the All-America East First Team and totaled 11 honors, it was announced today. This is UMBC first season with three first-team selections since 2021.

Ryan Demato, Jake Kucinski, and Jameson Coffman were selected to the all-conference first team, while Dante Marinello, Casey Pung, and Dylan Sharpe were second team selections. The Retrievers placed five student-athletes on the All-Academic Team, with Coffman, Demato, and Marinello joined by Nick Gutierrez and Alex Steers.

Demato, a junior attackman from Medford, N.J., put together a breakout season to earn first-team honors. Demato scored 31 goals and handed out nine assists in 12 games this season, while also adding three caused turnovers and nine ground balls. Demato scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in contests versus UMass Lowell and NJIT. The New Jersey native has scored multiple goals in 10 straight games, dating back to Feb. 24, recording three three-goal games, two four-goal games, and a five-goal effort. Demato became the 27th Retriever in program history to score 30 or more goals in a season, and currently ranks 31st in single-season program history.

A transfer from St. Bonaventure, Kucinski earns a first-team nod in the midfield in his first season with the Retrievers. The former Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection scored 15 goals, handed out 11 assists, and picked up 11 ground balls this season. Kucinski recorded multiple goals in six games, scoring his first career hat trick with UMBC on April 4 at UMass Lowell. Kucinski had a five-point game against Towson in February as well.

A sophomore captain, Coffman has now earned an America East honor in both seasons in Baltimore. The Severna Park native earned first-team honors as a SSDM after being named to the All-Rookie team last season. Coffman got the job done on both ends this season, scoring seven goals, handing out three assists, causing six turnovers, picking up 14 ground balls, and constantly making his presence felt in the midfield. Coffman scored five goals and totaled eight points in a three game stretch versus Bryant, Binghamton, and NJIT.

The defensive triumvirate of Marinello, Pung, and Sharpe was key to the UMBC defensive effort as the team allowed the fewest goals in the America East this season (118). Marinello earns his second straight All-America East Second Team honor, causing 10 turnovers, picking up 15 ground balls, and adding three goals offensively. Pung was second on the team with 12 caused turnovers, picked up 32 ground balls, and also dished out a pair of assists in 2026. Sharpe made his impact felt as an LSM, causing a team-best 13 turnovers, picking up 23 ground balls, and scoring his second career pole goal.

Coffman (3.92), Demato (3.80), Marinello (3.80, Gutierrez (3.86), and Steers (4.0) excelled on the field and in the classroom to earn the all-academic nod. UMBC took up five of the 10 spots on the team.

UMBC takes on UAlbany on Thursday evening in the America East Semifinals.
