Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Video Highlights

BALTIMORE-- UMBC baseball took game two of the doubleheader 15-9 after dropping the opener 8-3. Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a big game two with three hits and six RBI after smashing a home run in game one.

The Retrievers move to 13-13, 8-13 AE while Binghamton moves to 9-9, 9-9 AE.

Game One:

Binghamton got out early with a pair of runs off a two-run home run in the first to take the early lead. That would be short-lived as the Retrievers answered right back with Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) belting a two-run home run of his own to tie it.

UMBC would take a 3-2 lead in the third with Ian Diaz drilling a solo home run to left-center. However, Binghamton would score the last six runs of the game, getting one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh to take game one 8-3.

Torres drove in a pair on one hit with Diaz collecting two hits with one RBI.

Game Two:

Game two started off with the Retrievers grabbing an early lead with Diaz scoring Christian Easley (Collinsville, Va.) on a fielder's choice. The Bearcats would tie it on an RBI single in the third, but the Retrievers wasted no time taking the lead back with Easley smacking a solo home run in their half.

Binghamton would retake the lead in a back-and-forth early start, leading 6-2 before the offense woke up. UMBC got a run back in the fifth on a Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) RBI single. Diaz struck big the very next at-bat with a grand slam that gave UMBC the lead at 7-6.

UMBC trailed going into the seventh but tied the game on a Diaz RBI double. That was followed by a Torres RBI single and Nolan Charlton (Atlantic City, N.J.) two-RBI single that made it 11-7. UMBC added four more in the eighth with three coming on an Easley three-run home run.

The Bearcats added a run in the ninth, but UMBC held on for a 15-9 win in game two.

Joe Nestel (Drexel Hill, Pa.)picked up his third win of the year throwing 4.0 innings of relief. Diaz led the way with three hits, driving in six runs with two doubles and a home run. Easley belted two home runs with four RBI and four runs scored.

UMBC and Binghamton are scheduled to play two tomorrow starting at 2 p.m.
