The UMBC men's lacrosse team (2-0, 1-0 America East) is set to resume the 2021 when the Retrievers travel to West Hartford, Conn. to take on the Hartford Hawks (0-2, 0-2) on Saturday, March 20. The opening face-off is set for noon at Al-Marzook Field and the game will be broadcast on the America East digital network.
Spectator attendance at the University of Hartford is not permitted at this time.
The contest at Hartford begins a hectic week for the Retrievers after a pause in team activities. UMBC will make-up the March 13 game at BInghamton on Wednesday, March 24 (4:00 p.m.), then return home to face the same Bearcat team four days later at UMBC Stadium.

Last Time Out
UMBC sophomore midfielder Nick Dupuis (Alexandria, Va.) scored a man-up goal with 1:09 to play in the fourth overtime period to end the longest game in school history as the Retrievers edged Stony Brook, 13-12, on March 6.
The game featured six ties, but only three lead changes.
The game-deciding goal occurred after Stony Brook was whistled for a personal foul with 1:31 remaining in the fourth overtime. Dupuis took the ball and curled around the right post and tucked a shot just between Palma and the post to set off the second consecutive overtime winning celebration for the hosts.

Road Trip
UMBC completes the first of a pair of two-game America East road swings at Binghamton in the rescheduled game on March 24. The Retrievers conclude the season at Stony Brook (April 24) and NJIT (May 1).
A Glance at the Hawks
- Hartford has dropped a pair of America East decisions, opening with a 16-6 setback versus then-No. 12 UAlbany on March 13 before falling, 12-10, at UMass Lowell on March 20.
- The Hawks led the Riverhawks, 8-7, entering the fourth quarter, but UML reeled off five consecutive goals in under five minutes to surge to the win.
- Sophomore Anthony Sericolo led UH with three goals vs. UML and has five goals on just eight shots through a pair of games.
- Junior face-off specialist Chris Ladyga has won 19-of-32 draws (59.4 percent) and leads the squad with 12 ground balls.
- The last time these teams met in April of 2019, Patschorke scored a career-high five goals, leading the Retrievers to an 11-9 win at Hartford and securing the No. 4 seed in the 2019 America East Championships.
- The win snapped a six-game losing streak for UMBC at Hartford. The Retrievers are now 10-8 all-time versus the Hawks and 3-6 in West Hartford.

- UMBC received 39 votes and earned the USILA No. 20 ranking as of March 8 and received votes in that week's Inside Lacrosse media poll.
- The Retrievers have started a season at 2-0 for the first time since 2009, the last year they captured an America East title prior to the 2019 championship. UMBC last started a season at 3-0 in 2001.
- Speaking of 2009, UMBC's current six-game winning streak is the longest since the Retrievers also won six in a row during that campaign. The program's longest streak ever of 11 in a row occurred a year before in 2008.
- For the second consecutive year, senior attackman Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) is one of 20 men's lacrosse student-athletes from across the country to be tabbed as a candidate for the Senior CLASS award.
- Head Coach Ryan Moran, in his fifth campaign at UMBC, now has a career record of 23-26. He is just the third UMBC mentor in 51 years of USILA (1971) competition. He led the Retrievers to America East Tournament berths in two of his first three campaigns, including a league title in 2019. Moran is assisted by Joe Bucci and Craig Chick.
- The 2021 slate features nine America East Conference games throughout the months of March and April. UMBC will play home-and-away series with league foes Stony Brook and Binghamton and face the other five schools one time each.
- Returning players/starters returning – Thirty of 37 players on last year's roster return for the 2021 campaign, including fifth-year senior Ryan Frawley and graduate students Brett McIntyre and Colin Kasner. McIntyre and Kasner have earned their undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering and business technology administration respectively. Thirteen newcomers, including a dozen freshman, dot the 2021 roster.
- The Retriever squad selected seniors Ryan Frawley and Nick Griffin and junior Keith Dukes (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) as team captains for the 2021 campaign. Frawley and Griffin were tabbed to reprise their roles as captains from the 2020 season, while Dukes is a first-year honoree.
- UMBC attackmen Brett McIntyre (Calgary, Alberta, Can.) and Trevor Patschorke earned 2020 America East Conference Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team honors, A 33-goal scorer in the championship season of 2019, McIntyre posted the highest grade-point average (3.86) of any Retriever male student-athlete in UMBC's College of Engineering and Information Technology. A political science major, Patschorke earned the 2019 America East Tournament MVP and has 80 career points in only 25 contests.
- Versatile senior Colin Kasner (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) moved into sole possession of 5th place on UMBC's all-time caused turnover list with 46. He's averaged 2.19 CT/game in 21 career games for the Retrievers. Seth Mackin '15, stands in fourth place with 47.
- Frawley enters weekend tied for 25th in the nation with points in 28 consecutive games. In his final outing of 2020, Frawley scored six goals versus High Point and became the 35th player in school history to reach the 100-point plateau (86-17-103). He is tied for 32nd place on the school's all-time scoring list.
- Junior goalkeeper Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) has been selected to the 2021 USILA / Warrior and New Balance Preseason All-American Division I Team. An Honorable Mention selection, Lingner posted a save percentage of 59.6 and a goals-against average of 8.4 in 2020. He needs 27 saves to move into UMBC's all-time top ten.
- SB Nation's College Crosse named Retriever freshmen Tony Diallo (Suitland, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) and Alex Poma (Marietta, Ga.) to its 2020 All-Freshmen Honorable Mention team. Diallo started all five games for UMBC and finished the abbreviated season with eight ground balls and six caused turnovers. Poma completed the 2020 campaign ranked as the No. 24 face-off specialist in the nation. He won 58.8 percent of his draws taken, including a spectacular 49 of 71 (69.0 percent) in his final three games.
- UMBC is still the reigning America East Championships, having captured the league title in improbable fashion in 2019. The Retrievers were 3-8, including three overtime losses, before winning the first of four non-home elimination games in the regular season finale at Hartford. The fourth-seeded Retrievers upended host and top-seeded Stony Brook, 14-8, in the semis, then rallied from a four-goal third quarter deficit to edge Vermont, 14-13, in the championship game. UMBC went on the road and defeated Marist, 14-8, in the NCAA First Round game, before falling at No. 1 Penn State in the Round of 16.
