UMBC Baseball Drops Series Finale, 9-2 to Maine on Sunday Afternoon

Orono, Maine—UMBC baseball battled but could not overcome a three-run fifth inning from the Black Bears in a 9-2 loss on Sunday. The Retrievers were led by Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) who each had a pair of hits and an RBI in the contest.

UMBC falls to 14-13, 2-6 AE on the year while the Black Bears improve to 4-22, 3-5 AE.

The Retrievers got off to a strong start, getting a run in the top of the first. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) led off the game with a single. After stealing second, Christian Torres brought Pinkston home with a bloop single to give UMBC a 1-0 lead.

Maine would respond with a run in their half of the first, with the Retrievers retaking the lead in the third. Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) led off the third with a single to center and advanced on a Pinkston sacrifice bunt. He would score the next at bat with O'Saben driving him in with a single.

However, the Black Bears would score the next eight runs in the contest, including three in the fifth to take the series finale, 9-2 on Sunday.

Torres and O'Saben led the way with a pair of hits and one RBI each. Pinkston and Machado recorded the only other hits for the Retrievers, each scoring a run.

UMBC returns to Baltimore to take on George Washington on Tuesday at Alumni Field before heading to Delaware on Wednesday night.
