Orono, Maine— UMBC baseball earned a split in America East action against Maine on Saturday. The Black Bears won a tight game one, 2-1 before the Retriever offense came alive in game two winning 4-1.

The Retrievers move to 14-12, 2-6 AE while the Black Bears move to 3-22, 2-5 AE.

Game One:

The Black Bears jumped out in front early getting a run in the first after leading off the inning with a single.

UMBC responded in the third with Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) singling and advancing on a sacrifice bunt. He would advance on a wild pitch and score on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1.

However, Maine would score the go ahead run in the seventh off a Retriever error to take a 2-1 lead. UMBC would load the bases in the eighth and threaten in the ninth, but the Black Bears held on for the game one win.

Beeman went 2-2 from the plate to lead UMBC in game one.

Game Two:

Game two started the way the first did with Maine getting off to a fast start, taking a 1-0 lead after one.

The Retrievers, however found their footing in the third, exploding for four runs to take the lead. Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) tripled with two outs and was brought home on a Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) single to tie it.

With the bases loaded after a Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) single and AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) walk, Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) drilled a triple to right center, clearing the bases to give UMBC a 4-1 lead.

That would be all they needed as Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, three hitter for his third win of the year.
