UMBC Baseball Ups Win Streak to Eight in 9-3 Win Against Navy on Wednesday

Box Score

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball got a balanced attack from the entire lineup in a 9-3 victory against Navy on Wednesday night. The win keeps their win streak alive at eight games. Four different Retrievers recorded multiple hits in the contest with Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, N.Y.) driving in three in the fourth to push UMBC in front for good.

The Retrievers improve to 13-11 on the year while the Midshipmen fall to 22-10 on the year.

Navy got things started with a run in their half of the first to take an early lead. UMBC responded in a big way in their half. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) led off the inning with a mammoth solo home run to left to tie it. Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) would give UMBC the lead on a wild pitch after doubling to right. Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) would come around to score on an AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) double to make it 3-1 early.

The Mids would tie it with a two-run second inning before UMBC scored the last six runs of the game en route to the win. Pinkston would give the Retrievers the lead with a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) who singled earlier in the inning.

Milkowski put the game away for good in the fourth, clearing the bases with a three-run double to left that scored Brown, Wright and Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.). Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) brought home Milkowski just three pitches later with a single to make it 8-3.

Machado added an insurance run with a single to short that scored Brown, giving UMBC a 9-3 lead that would end up being the final score.

O'Saben, Torres, Brown and Machado all had two hits in the contest. Milkowski brought home three runs with Machado and Pinkston driving in two.

Greg Albert (Medford, N.J.) picked up his first win of the year going three strong innings in relief giving up just one hit with three strikeouts.

UMBC returns to America East play this weekend when they travel north for a three-game set with Maine on Saturday and Sunday.
