Box Score

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball picked up an impressive 10-8 win in game one before falling in game two 7-4 on Saturday night. The Retrievers battled back from a 4-1 deficit in game one to win. The Dawgs had a 4-0 lead after one inning in game two, but the Hawks rallied for a 7-4 win.

UMBC moves to 18-18, 4-10 AE on the year while the Hawks move to 13-21, 7-4 AE.

Game One:

After Hartford got runs in the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead, the Retrievers battled back with a run in their half of the third. Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) drove in Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly after Milkowski led off the inning with a walk.

Hartford would get that run back in the fourth, but UMBC responded with a pair. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) singled in AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) with Milkowski following him with an RBI ground out to score Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) and make it 4-3.

From there, the Retrievers would go on to score the next seven runs over four innings to take a commanding 10-4 lead. Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Good Counsel/Appalachian State) came on in the sixth and held the Hawks off the board, earning his fourth win of the year. The Hawks would get four in the ninth, but UMBC held on for a 10-8 win.

Schoch went 2.2 innings of relief for the win, striking out four. Andy Rozylowicz (Annapolis, Md./DeMatha) earned the save in 0.2 innings of relief in the ninth. Casey, Beeman and Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) each had two hits in the win.

Game Two:

The Retrievers got off to a hot start in the first, putting up a four spot on reigning pitcher of the year Nicholas Dombkowski. O'Saben led off the game with a double and would be brought home on a Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) double to make it 1-0. Pinkston and Wright would score just batters later on a big Colin Casey triple to extend the lead to 3-0 with Beeman capping the inning with a single to make it 4-0.

However, Dombkowski and the Hawks would settle down from there, putting up five runs in the fourth and tacking on two in the sixth to take a 7-4 win in the nightcap.

O'Saben led the Retrievers with two hits, scoring once in the loss.

The two will conclude the series tomorrow, Sunday April 21 with a 1 p.m. start time.
