Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball dropped an 8-3 decision to UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The River Hawks put up a pair of runs in the second and third innings to take control of the game, using a four run fifth to distance themselves.

UMBC falls to 5-10, 0-4 AE on the year while the River Hawks improve to to 3-16, 1-0 AE.

The River Hawks put up runs in the second and third innings to take an early lead before the Retrievers finally broke through in their half of the third. Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) laced a one out double and advanced on a wild pitch. He would score on a Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) sacrifice fly to cut the deficit in half.

UMass Lowell added another run the next half inning, but once again UMBC had a response. Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) reached on a walk and proceeded to steal second just pitches later. Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) would drive him home on a single up the middle to make it a 3-2 deficit after four.

However, the River Hawks would score the next five runs, including a four-run fifth inning and one in the eighth to take a commanding 8-2 lead. UMBC would get one back in the bottom of the ninth on a Chris Convers (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) RBI groundout, as UMass Lowell took the series opener 8-3.

Casey, Torres and Convers each drove in runs for the Retrievers with four different Retrievers recording hits.

The two will conclude the series tomorrow with a double header on Sunday starting at 12 p.m.
