WORCESTER, Mass. - Records continued to be reset at the 2019 America East Championships as the UMBC swimming and diving teams finished competing in day three of the competition. After the third day of events, the men lead with 782.5 points, while the women took over first place with 604.5 points.
RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCES
-Natalija Marin earned a gold in the 100 fly with a time of 54.83 as she tied a UMBC record set by Emily Escobedo set back in 2016.
-During the preliminaries, Alexander Gliese reset the America East and UMBC record in the 100 back with a time of 47.26. In the finals, the senior shaved another .10 seconds off his time as he took home a gold medal in the event in a time of 47.16. He unseats Mohamed Hussein's AE record of 48.53 (2013) and school record of 47.65 (2014).
-The team of Gliese, Connor Ganley, Satori Dobbie, and Ilia Rattsev reset the America East conference and meet record, as well as the WPI pool record in the 400 medley relay as they finished in a time of 3:14.68; the Retrievers shaved a whole 1.02 off of the previous record set by Boston University in 2011 (3:15.66)
DAY THREE RECAP
-Abby Biddulph finished fifth in the women's 1-meter dive with a score of 218.85. Devin Gromen finished seventh with a score of 202.15.
-Laura Massicotte earned bronze in the 400 IM, touching in with a time of 4:21.09. Britt Driscoll (4:22.10) and Kelly Lajoie (4:24.86) finished four-five in the event, while Aleasha Knight rounded out the top eight with a time of 4:34.78.
-On the men's side, Kai Wisner earned gold after touching in with a time of 3:56.33, while Jimmy Dwyer took home a bronze medal after he touched in with a time of 4:00.87. Ryan Bugianesi finished fourth in a time of 4:02.00.
-Sotiria Neofytou earned a silver medal after she touched in with a time of 54.85. Cassandra Willie finished seventh with a time of 58.25.
-The Retrievers swept the top five in the men's 100 fly. Jack Carlisle took home gold after he finished in a time of 49.47, followed by Matt Bennici (2nd, 50.15) and Jethro Ssengonzi (3rd, 50.31). Mac Hoskins (4th, 50.39) and Tiago Asakawa (5th, 50.40) rounded out the top five.
-In the women's 200 free, Hania Moro took home silver after she finished in a time of 1:49.80. Right after earning a gold in the 100 fly, Marin earned a bronze medal in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.05. Tonia Papapertrou finished seventh with a time of 1:52.86.
-Rattsev added another gold medal to his weekend as he finished first in the men's 200 free with a time of 1:37.55, followed by Luka Zuric in second with a time of 1:40.60. Satori Dobbie (4th, 1:41.43), Ross Welsh (6th, 1:42.11), and Haythem Abdelkhalek (7th, 1:42.69) rounded out the top eight for UMBC.
-Maddy Popalis earned gold in the 100 breast, touching in with a time of 1:02.46, while Haylee Committe earned bronze with a time of 1:04.39. Holly Driscoll finished sixth in a time of 1:05.13.
-In the men's 100 breast, Ganley (55.22) and Luis Galvan (55.28) finished within just .06 seconds of each other for gold and silver, respectively. Ssengonzi finished seventh with a time of 58.66.
-In the women's 100 back, Emily Vance claimed a silver medal in the event after she touched in with a time of 56.14. The Retrievers had three other top eight finishers in Caroline Sargent (5th, 57.01), Willie (7th, 57.95), and Natalie Davis (8th, 58.75).
-Garrett Wlochowski and Zuric earned a silver and bronze, respectively, in the 100 back. Wlochowski finished the race in a time of 47.80, followed by Zuric in 50.02. Dobbie came in fourth with a time of 50.22.
-Vance, Popalis, Marin, and Committe came in second in the women's 400 medley relay, touching in with a time of 3:44.38.

The Retrievers will participate in the final day of the America East championships, where they will compete in the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relays.
