BALTIMORE --
Alice Marini and
Aidan O'Callaghan completed their excellent weekends by being named the Women's Swimmer and Male Diver of the Meet, respectively, on Sunday night as the UMBC Swimming & Diving program wrapped up competition at Loyola's Thomas Murphy Invitational.
Marini completed the sweep of all three individual events she raced in when she won the 200 back in 2:00.00. O'Callaghan once again went from final qualifier to podium as he improved his prelim score by 65 points in the 3 meter to take third. Combined with his victory in the 1 meter on Saturday, he secured 67 points, the most of any diver, and was named Diver of the meet.
UMBC took spots 2-5 in the 3 meter, as
Kaleb Cave took second for the second straight day, finishing with a score of 287.25, and he was followed by O'Callaghan,
Anders Logas and
Grant Moore.
In the 1 meter dive for the women,
Alicia Buteau took second with a score of 237.20,
Ember Stennett placed fourth and
Isabella Evers finished seventh.
Erma Duratovic won the Women's 100 free in a time of 51.49, while
Claire Oettinger took third in 51.71. In the Men's 100 free,
Matthew So took second in 44.64 (the winner had a meet record 44.00).
Ula Parrill (2:22.80) and
Shannyn Lambert (2:22.83) finished second and third in 200 breststroke, while
James Tao and
Matthew Johnson took the top two spots in the B final of the event on the Men's side.
Nick Zaharescu then won the B final of the 200 fly.
The meet closed with a strong showing from both squads in the 400 free relay as the Women's quartet of Duratovic, Oettinger,
Bruna de Padua and
Evie Grim improved their seed time by nearly nine seconds in a third place finish (3:27.81). The Men took second as So,
Stefano Perez,
Braden Weise and
Sean Neils finished in 3:00.23.
The Retrievers return to the pool on Saturday, November 8 as they host VMI and Howard for a 1 p.m. tri-meet.
