BALTIMORE - The host UMBC Men's Swimming & Diving team swept the podium in both diving events and won eight of the swim events en route to victories over Howard (221-78) and VMI (188-111) on Saturday.
Anders Logas won both diving competitions as the Retrievers took the top four spots in the one meter and the top three in the three meter. In the one meter, Logas won with a score of 282.90 and was followed by
Kaleb Cave,
Aidan O'Callaghan and
Grant Moore. A score of 282.05 won Logas the three meter with Moore and Cave taking second and third.
Freshman
Quinn Marchionini won both 100 (50.96) and 200 back (1:54.09) and was the first leg on the winning 200 medley relay team, along with
Elliot Fielder,
Stefano Perez and
Sean Neils.
Matthew So and Marchionini went 2-3 in the 100 fly later in the meet.
Fielder won both the 100 (58.51) and the 200 breaststroke (2:08.74), while Neils won the free in a time of 46.07.
Andrew McEachern (1:42.47) and
Felipe Taveira Lira went 1-2 in the 200 free, and Taveira Lira went on to win the 200 IM in 1:56.17.
Nick Bracall finished second behind Marchionini in both backstroke events, while Neils took second in the 50 free.
Nick Zaharescu, McEachern and
Christian Castro went 2-4 in the 500 free, and
Matthew Rotunda finished third in the 200 breaststroke for the Retrievers.
The 400 relay team of Neils, McEachern, Perez and So was just outtouched at the wall and finished in second to conclude the meet.
The Retrievers have next weekend off before returning to the pool for the Bucknell Invite, November 21-23.
