Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball completed the sweep of Maine on Sunday with a 5-2 win. Starter Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) had his best outing of the season, going eight innings giving up just two hits with four strikeouts.

UMBC improves to 17-20, 9-6 AE while Maine falls to 11-28, 6-9 AE on the year.

Both starters were dealing early, as both teams combined for just three hits through four innings. UMBC pushed ahead in the fifth. Matt Campbell (Chesapeake, Va.) led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) single. Zack Bright came up and flew out on the very next pitch to score Campbell, giving UMBC a 1-0 lead.

The Retrievers added some insurance in the sixth, putting up four runs. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) got things started with a single and advanced to third on a Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y.) single to right. Zack DeThomasis (Rensselar, N.Y.) singled on a bunt to score Beeman, with Campbell following on a bunt single to score Stack. Bright came back with another RBI, this time on a fielder's choice to give UMBC a 4-0 lead. Freshman Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) made it 5-0 on a sac fly to score Wright.

The Black Bears would score twice in the sixth, but UMBC would hold on for a 5-2 victory.

Chanin gave up just two hits on the afternoon, with one in the third and one in the eighth for his first win of the season. The senior struck out four, issuing just two walks in the win.

Goodwin, Campbell, Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) and Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) each had two hits with Bright driving in two runs.

UMBC will start a four-game road swing at Delaware on Wednesday, May 2. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
