Andrews and Nolan Pace Men's Lacrosse Offense in 7-4 Victory Over Marist

Box Score

Junior Jack Andrews (Arnold, Md.) scored three goals, and classmate Billy Nolan (Crofton, Md.) got two more as the UMBC men's lacrosse defeated Marist, 7-4, on a cold Saturday night at UMBC Stadium.

Andrews scored his three goals on just four shots, including the final two goals a 5-0 run that put the Retrievers up by four after Marist got the game's first goal. This was the junior's first multi-goal game this season.

Marist then scored the next goal to make it 5-2 before Nolan scored with three seconds left in the half. The junior shrugged off a big hit from a Red Fox defender, worked his way towards the goal and fired it in from about five yards out, giving UMBC a 6-2 halftime lead.

Marist then held the Retrievers scoreless for nearly 23 minutes and scored the next two goals. However, Andrews completed his hat trick with a goal midway through the fourth quarter that gave UMBC (2-3) a 7-4 lead.

Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) made nine saves, four coming in the fourth quarter as Marist (1-7) tried to rally.

Senior LSDM Billy O'Hara (Davidsonville, Md.) had a game-high six ground balls and also led the team with two caused turnovers. Jake Brothers (Elkridge, Md.) won eight of 15 face-offs, and UMBC held a 27-26 edge in shots.

The Retrievers get back into action Tuesday night with a road game at No. 15 Johns Hopkins (7 p.m.).  The Blue Jays scored an 18-7 road victory over No. 7 Syracuse Saturday.

UMBC comes back home next Sunday when it opens up America East play with a noon face-off against Stony Brook.
