The UMBC women's tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary's by a 6-1 margin, capturing the doubles point and winning five singles matches.

In doubles,senior Shannon Cleary and sophomore Laura Ambrozic defeated the Mountaineers' Kelly Smith and Erin Benefiel, 6-2, at the first flight. In the second flight match, Madlena Kurasz and Charlotte Tonjann also took a 6-2 victory versus Brittany Poje and Sruthi Kamprath to wrap up the doubles point. At No. 3, sophomores Alice Taylor and Aishu Iyer defeated Isabella Draper and Emma Blake, 6-4. 

In singles action, Kurasz captured her match in straight sets to give a 2-0 lead. The Mountaineers struck back in No. 2 singles, but UMBC finished the rest of the singles with straight-set victories. At the third flight, Mariami Dolashvili returned from the injured list and defeated Benefiel, 6-1, 6-1. Cleary took flight number four and clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win, while Ambrozic and Tonjann also came away with dominating victories.

The Retrievers will host Harford Community College in an exhibition on Sunday and then will begin preparations for the America East Champions to be held at Wilde Lake Tennis Center April 22-24.
