Ambrozic, Siopacha Named to AE Women's Tennis All-Conference Squad

BOSTON - UMBC sophomore Laura Ambrozic and freshman Maria Siopacha were tabbed to the America East Women's Tennis All-Conference squad.

Along with senior Shannon Cleary, Ambrozic picked up the Retrievers' lone victory in the 4-0 semifinal setback to Stony Brook. The duo won at No. 1 doubles, besting the Seawolves in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (8-6). SBU held a 5-2 lead, but the Retrievers broke the Seawolves twice and got the match to a tie-breaker. In the breaker, SBU had three match points, but Cleary and Ambrozic won the final five points to take the match.

With the win, Ambrozic evened her doubles record for the campaign at 4-4 and she was also at .500 overall (9-9). She was leading Becky Shtilkind, 7-5, 2-2, at No. 6 singles, when the match was halted.

Siopacha battled valiantly, but dropped a 6-3, 6-3 singles decision to Stony Brook's No. 1 singles player, sophomore Yana Nikoleava. Siopacha competed at No. 1 singles all season and tied for the team lead with five victories (5-7).

All-Conference honorees were put forward by their own coaches based on team championship placing.
