UMBC update

-Senior attackman Nate Lewnes scored a team season-high six goals and spearheaded a furious comeback, but the Retrievers (1-5, 0-2 America East) could not complete the rally and fell, 14-11, to 12th-ranked Stony Brook (6-2, 1-1 AE) on Saturday in an America East Conference contest at UMBC Stadium.

-The Retrievers trailed, 10-3, at the midpoint of the second quarter, but cut the deficit to 13-11 early in the fourth quarter and had four shot attempts to try to trim the margin to 13-12 before SBU scored a late insurance marker.

-For the second straight week, UMBC set a season high for goals scored. In those games, the Retrievers have hit on 21 of 54 shot attempts (38.9%) and 17 of the 21 goals have drawn assists.

-Lewnes' six-goal, seven-point effort is one off of his career best seven-goal, eight-point effort at Vermont in April of 2014. It is his tenth career game with three or more goals. Lewnes is now 19th on UMBC'a all-time goals list with 84 and 29th on the all-time scoring chart with 107 career points.

-Senior midfielder Jack Gannon and junior attackman Max Maxwell each recorded for points, as Gannon added three assists to his one tally and Maxwell tied his career-best with four helpers. Freshman attackman Jack Andrews added a goal and two helpers, while sophomore middie Max Haldeman scored a pair for the second consecutive week.

-Despite having played only three games, Lewnes leads UMBC with eight goals scored. Maxwell is the club leader with 16 points (7g, 9a), while Gannon paces the squad with 10 helpers. Amongst Division I head coaches, the Retriever mentor stood eighth with 233 victories and is 17th in winning percentage at .591 entering the 2016 campaign. In the all-time coaching annuals of Division I lacrosse, Zimmerman is 26th in total victories.
