Both squads are now 1-4 on the campaign.
The Bearcats held a distinct time of possession advantage by winning 21 of 30 draws and outshot the Retrievers, 36-28. UMBC sophomore netminder David Pisanic (Towson, Md./Boys' Latin) took the loss in the nets, making six saves and allowing six goals in the first half.
Binghamton jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead before Haldeman got UMBC on the board with just nine seconds to play in the first quarter. The Bearcats built the advantage to 5-1 before Maxwell scored back-to-back goals in the middle part of the period. BU replied once with 1:37 remaining, but UMBC took momentum into the locker room when freshman midfielder Pat Clipp (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) rocketed home a Lewnes' feed with 48 seconds to play in the half.
