Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball split the Friday double-header with Stony Brook on Friday, as the Retrievers fell 15-10 in the opener, before knocking off the Seawolves, 2-1 in the nightcap. The win was the first against the Seawolves since 2013. UMBC moves to 6-10, 1-1 AE on the year.

Game One:

UMBC dropped a 15-10 decision in the opener, as the Seawolves scored in all but one inning in the win. There were a combined 35 hits, including 16 extra base hits.

Stony Brook jumped on the Retrievers early and often, outscoring UMBC 8-0 in the first three innings. The Retrievers would responds putting up a six spot in the third. Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) started the inning with a solo home run to left. After Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) reached base, Anthony Gatto came up and belted a two run home run to left to cut the deficit to 8-3. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) followed up with an RBI double down the line, plating Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley). Wasting no time, AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) had a two-RBI single the very next at bat. His shot scored both Casali and Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) to cut it to 8-6.

However the Seawolves would keep their foot on the gas, keeping the Retrievers at bay through the middle innings. Stony Brook would give up just four runs the rest of the way, holding on for a 15-10 win in the opener.

Switalski led the way, going 3-4 from the plate with three doubles and two runs scored. Lachance and Casali also had three hit games for the Dawgs in the loss.

Game Two:

The Retrievers and Seawolves found themselves in a pitchers dual early, with both starters throwing gems early.

Stony Brook broke through first in the fourth inning, as reigning America East Player of the Year Jack Parenty grounded out to short, allowing Andruw Gazzola to score to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead.

UMBC would not waver as Hunter Dolshun drilled a home run to left to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. The Retrievers would cash in the very next inning, with Kevin Lachance drawing a two out walk, and advancing on a wild pitch. Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) stepped up with a 2-2 count and put a single into right, letting Lachance score to win in walk-off fashion, 2-1.

Starter Conrad Wozniak went six innings with three strikeouts, giving up four hits and one run in a no decision.

The two sides will square off in the rubber match tomorrow, Saturday March 19 at 3 p.m.
