Lowell, Mass.—The Retrievers saw their season end at the hands of Stony Brook, 16-11, in the America East Championship game. UMBC ends their season at 34-20, the second most wins in a single season in program history.

Stony Brook got out early, loading the bases in the top of the first, but starter Joe Vanderplas (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax/Tennessee) got a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat.

UMBC got things started in the first, thanks to a Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) leadoff single, followed by a Vince Corbi (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) single. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) would draw a walk to load the bases for Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./ Pine-Richland). Switalski would walk in Lachance to give the Retrievers an early 1-0 lead. Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) would get an RBI on a walk that plated Corbi, making it 2-0.

The hits would keep on coming, as Jake Barnes laced a single to left to score Dolshun. Mitchell Carroll smacked a double to deep right, scoring Hax and Switalski to push UMBC ahead 5-0. Lachance got his second hit of the inning, scoring Barnes to make it 6-0. The Retrievers got their seventh run off a balk by Stony Brook starter Ryley MacEachern.

The Seawolves would get on the board with an RBI single in the second inning. They would add to that total, getting seven runs in the inning to make it 7-7. Stony Brook would take the lead after a wild pitch, making it 8-7 Seawolves and take a 11-7 lead following a pair of RBI singles

The Retrievers would get a pair back in the second. Jake Barnes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) hits an RBI single that scored Dolshun. Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) hit a sacrifice fly to plate Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), cutting the deficit to 11-9 after two.

Stony Brook would add to their lead, getting a pair of runs in the fourth to make it 13-9.  

Barnes inched the Retrievers closer with a big RBI triple to left center, scoring Casali to make it 13-10 after four innings.

The back and forth play would continue as the Seawolves got a run in the fifth to push their advantage back to 14-10.

Casali tried to keep UMBC in the game, as his double to left center cut the deficit to 14-11.

Stony Brook would hold on to win the game 16-11 to take the 2015 America East crown. Jake Barnes led the way going 4-4 with a triple in the loss.

UMBC drops to 34-20 on the year. The Retrievers end their historic season with 34 wins the second most in a season in program history. They also eclipsed 30 wins for the first time since 2002, and have won their first two games in the America East Tournament.
