BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – UMBC freshman Ian Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J./Rutgers Prep) went 2-for-4 and extended his career-long hit streak to ten games, but the Retrievers (7-25, 0-7 America East) lost the series finale at Binghamton (13-14, 4-2 America East), 4-1, Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. 

The rookie infielder finished the three-game series 4-for-12 (.333) and is now second on the team with a .331 batting average (39-for-118) this season.

Binghamton starter Jake Lambert (3-3) picked up the win for the Bearcats throwing eight innings and yielding only one run on six hits while striking out five batters.  Closer Lee Sosa came on in the ninth and worked out of a bases loaded jam to pick up his sixth save of the year.

Sophomore Shane Vlasic (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) (2-5) pitched a complete eight innings, but gave up four runs on two hits to take the loss for UMBC.  The right-hander struck out two batters while issuing two walks.

UMBC started the game brightly, taking a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore Rob McCabe(Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) drove in senior Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) with a two out single through the left side.  Lambert then locked down the Retrievers, limiting them to only four more hits in the next seven innings.

After Vlasic sent the Bearcats down scoreless in the first, the hosts plated two runs in the second to take the lead, one which they would not give up.  Binghamton scored two more in the bottom of the fourth to build the finale three-run gap.

The Retrievers tried one last rally in the top of the ninth loading the bases with one out.  Sosa however, forced a double play to get out of the jam and end the game.

Daniel Nevares and Zach Blanden each picked up two hits, including a double, to pace the Bearcat lineup on Sunday.

UMBC returns to the diamond on Wednesday when the squad finishes its five-game road swing with a short trip to the nation's capital to take on George Washington.  The Retrievers and Colonials have already met once this season with GW picking up a 6-4 win at the Baseball Factory Field.  Wednesday's first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

DAWG BITES

-           With two doubles on Sunday, the Retrievers extended their streak to eight straight games with multiple extra-base hits.

-          Vlasic struck out two batters to lengthen the Retriever staff's streak to 46 consecutive games with at least one K.

-          UMBC held Binghamton without a homerun in the three-game series.  This is the third time this season that the Retrievers have held an opponent without a long ball in a series (Army, Mar. 2-4; Coppin State, Mar. 16-18).

-          Schickner is now batting .419 (10-for-24) with runners in scoring position this season.

-          Senior Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) is hitting .588 (10-for-17) when leading off an inning.
