ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's Brad Borosak hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and start a five-run rally, as the Midshipmen took the three-game home-and-home series against UMBC with a 6-1 win in the series finale on Sunday at Max Bishop Stadium.

Junior Jason Allinder (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill/Chesapeake CC) went 2-for-4 on Sunday for the Retrievers to finish the series with five hits in nine at-bats, including two doubles and three walks, in addition to scoring five runs.

UMBC (2-9) took the series opener, 15-6, at home on Friday, but as the series shifted south to Annapolis, Navy (7-7) won both meetings on its home turf.

On Sunday, reliever Joel Rinehart (2-1) picked up the win for the Mids throwing three scoreless innings while striking out four batters. 

Retrievers' righty Shane Vlasic took the loss, after giving up six runs on 10 hits over six and one-thirds innings of work.  Vlasic (0-1) walked three batters but also recorded four strikeouts.

Borosak finished the day going 2-for-5 for Navy with two runs scored and the game-winning RBI. Chance Jones also had a big day for the hosts, missing only a homerun for the cycle, while driving in three runs. 

Once again, Navy struck early in the game, plating a run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead on a RBI single by Chance.  Vlasic then tightened, yielding only four hits over the next five innings to allow the Retrievers to get back in the game.

UMBC was able to tie it up in the top of the fourth after Allinder and sophomore D.J. Smith(Millersville, Md./Old Mill) both singled to lead off the inning.  Allinder advanced to third on the single by Smith, and then was given home plate on a balk by Navy.

The Retrievers made a bid for the lead in the top of the seventh when sophomore Rob McCabe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and freshman Ian Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J./Rutgers Prep) both connected for singles to start the inning.  McCabe advanced to third on a fly ball to center off the bat of senior Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), but could get no further.

Navy took advantage instantly, as the first four Midshipmen reached base in the bottom of the seventh, including Borosak who drove in the winning run.  The Mids ended up putting four more across the plate in the inning to build a five run cushion, 6-1.

The Retrievers could not mount a rally, going three-up, three-down in both the eighth and ninth innings to end the game.

UMBC now looks to bounce back when the squad hosts Buffalo on Wednesday.  First pitch between the Retrievers and the Bulls is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.

DAWG BITES

-           After not attempting a stolen base on Saturday, UMBC swiped one bag on Sunday.  The Retrievers have now stolen a base in seven of their 11 games.

-          UMBC has now stolen 12 bases through 11 games in 2012.  The Retrievers stole a total of 21 bags in 47 games during the 2011 season.

-          The Retrievers did not record an error against Navy on Sunday.  This marks the first time that UMBC has played errorless baseball this season.

-          Retriever pitchers matched a season-high six strikeouts against the Midshipmen on Sunday.
