Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J/Moorestown) went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, but for the second day in a row the UMBC baseball team (0-3) lost to local rival Georgetown, falling, 11-4, Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Himmelstein is now batting .400 (4-for-10) after three games with three extra base hits and four runs scored.
Sophomore Jon Cohn (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) took the loss for the Retrievers after yielding five earned runs in four innings of work.
Junior Tom Gilchrist (Olney, Md./Sherwood/Chesapeake CC) and sophomore Rob McCabe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) also picked up multi-hit games for the Retrievers. Batting in the leadoff spot, McCabe went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
After a scoreless first inning, the Hoyas drew first blood, bringing one across the plate in the top of the second and followed it with one more in the third.
Georgetown then scored three times in the top of the fourth inning, pushing the margin to 5-0, before UMBC got on the scoreboard courtesy of a single by Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./De Paul Catholic).
The Retrievers could get no closer, however, as the Hoyas scored three in the fifth and eighth innings.
UMBC concludes the weekend tournament by taking on Cincinnati at 12 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
