Boston, Mass.- Senior guard Darryl Partin, the nation's
16th-leading scorer, produced 17 points and the host
Boston University Terriers extended their winning streak to seven
straight with a 83-48 victory over UMBC at a rowdy Case
Gymnasium.
UMBC finished the first half of the conference schedule at 2-6
and slipped to 3-17 overall. The Terriers improved to 7-1 in
America East Conference play and evened their overall record at
11-11.
Retriever sophomore forward Chase Plummer
(Plainfield, N.J.) led the visitors with 17 points.
The Terriers took control with a 10-0 run in the latter stages
of the first half. After a Chandler
Thomas (Indianapolis, Ind.) inside score brought the Retrievers
to within, 21-15, at the 8:11 mark, The hosts scored ten answered
points and led, 31-15 with 4:48 remaining in the half. Boston U.
settled for a 39-22 intermission advantage.
The Terriers outrebounded UMBC, 24-11, in the first half and had
13 second chance points to 2 for UMBC.
Boston U. opened the second half on a 10-2 run to lead 49-24
with 16:10 to play and coasted the rest of the way.
Sophomore guard Jamar Wertz
(Suffolk, Va.) gave UMBC a spark in the second half, scoring all 12
of his points in the final 20 minutes.
Retriever starting guards Brian Neller (Red
Bank, N.J.) and Ryan Cook (Laurel,
Md.) struggled from the floor, scoring two and three points
respectively. Neller's streak of hitting a 3-point field goal in 18
consecutive games came to an end.
UMBC has eight days off before starting the second half of the
season at Albany on Feb. 1.
