Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Stony Brook Saturday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.—The UMBC baseball team dropped its first America East away doubleheader of the season Saturday, falling 12-0 and 14-0 to Stony Brook. The second game between the Retrievers (4-22, 0-5 America East) and the Seawolves (21-9, 5-1 AE) was stopped after five innings due to rain.

The Seawolves used two big innings and the long ball on their way to both victories. William Carmona had six hits on the day, while Joshua Mason hit a home run in each game to lead Stony Brook.

UMBC starters sophomore Mike Mitchell (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic/Frederick CC) and junior Sean Swetnam (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/George Mason) fell to 0-6 and 1-3 on the season, respectively.

Nick Tropeano (7-1) and Tyler Johnson (5-2) each pitched shutouts for the Seawolves, with Tropeano striking out 11 and Johnson only allowing one hit.

The two teams conclude the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. The series is being played at New York Tech due to renovations of Stony Brook's stadium.
