Baseball Drops Second Game of Series to Dartmouth, 8-2, Wednesday Afternoon

 

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—The UMBC baseball team fell to Dartmouth in the second game of a four-game set, 8-2, Wednesday afternoon as part of its trip to central Florida for Spring Break. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 3-10, while the Big Green improves to 6-4. 
 

In the bottom of the fifth, freshman D.J. Smith (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) singled to lead off the inning and moved to third on an error by the pitcher on a pickoff move. Smith came around to score on a single by fellow freshman Bryan Perlmutter(Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) that hit third base. Perlmutter would come around to score on another Big Green error.

 

Senior starter Austin Drewyer (Elliott City, Md./River Hill) (1-3) allowed five runs in seven innings of work

 

Dartmouth starter Kyle Hunter pitched seven innings (2-1), allowing no earned runs with nine strikeouts to pick up the win.

 

The two teams return to action Thursday for their third game of the series at 1 p.m.
