Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. - The UMBC baseball team scored six runs in the eighth inning, but it was not enough, as host Binghamton won the finale of a three-game series, 17-7, Sunday in Vestal, N.Y. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 7-25 (3-7 America East), while the Bearcats improve to 16-17 (7-3 AEC).
In the eighth, the Retrievers drew three straight walks to open the inning and sophomore Mike Lafferty (Annapolis, Md./Mount St. Joseph/Marietta College) also walked to score freshman Aaron Brill (Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard). After a sophomore Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) RBI single, junior Casey Medairy (Elkridge, Md./Howard) scored on a wild pitch.
After another walk, sophomore Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) singled in Lafferty, followed by a Bearcat error which allowed Klukowicz to score. The scoring ended with sophomore Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) drawing yet another walk to score junior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison).
Senior starter Ed Bach (Columbia, Md./Atholton) took the loss, falling to 3-6 on the season, after lasting 3.1 innings. Binghamton's Mike Augliera (2-2) picked up the win, allowing one run in six innings of work.
Corey Taylor led the Bearcat bats, recording four runs, three RBI and three hits, including his eighth home run of the season.
The Retrievers return home for their final 17 games of the season, starting with Mount St. Mary's Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
