BALTIMORE--Senior Tom Meaney (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) hit a three-run walk-off home run to lead the UMBC baseball team to a 7-4 victory over Stony Brook Friday afternoon. The Seawolves (14-13, 4-2 AEC) took the first game over the Retrievers (5-20, 1-5), 8-0.

In the bottom of the ninth, senior Brad Brainer (Chester, Md./Kent Island/Chesapeake JC) singled to center with one out. Fellow senior Wink Nolan (Elicott City, Md./Calvert Hall/Maryland) chased Stony Brook starter Mike Errigo with a walk and Jeremy Nowak came in to pitch for the Seawolves. Senior Shawn Retz (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech/Catonsville C.C.) flied to center to move Brainer to third before senior Meaney belted his sixth home run of the year to left center to give the Retrievers the win.

After the Seawolves broke through for three runs in the top of the first, Brainer, Nolan and Retz each singled to lead off the inning. Brainer scored on an error by the third baseman, while Nolan scored on groundball by senior Tom Meaney (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) to cut the led to 3-2.

After Nolan made an excellent diving catch to save a run in the top of the third, Retz launched his sixth home run of the season to left field to tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) then reached on an error, moved to second on a freshman Justin Lamborn () single up the middle and scored on a sophomore Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) single to right field to give the Retrievers a 4-3 lead. The Seawolves scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth to tie the game.

Junior starter Kevin Clark (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield/Catonsville C.C.) had a quality start for the Retrievers, allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work. Sophomore Travis Pearson (Downington, Pa./Donwington West) earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings of relief. Stony Brook starter Mike Errigo pitched 8 and 1/3 innings, striking out five, but took the loss to fall to 1-3.

Every Stony Brook player had a hit in the first game, as the Seawolves used a four-run fifth inning to break open the game on their way to a 8-0 win. UMBC junior Ed Bach (Columbia, Md./Atholton) (0-7) pitched his first complete game of the season, but took the loss, while Tyler Johnson (4-1) scattered three hits on his way to a complete game shutout.

The Retrievers return to action tomorrow when the two teams face off in the final two games of the series, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
