Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The UMBC baseball team gave up four runs in the third as they fell to Maryland, 8-1, in College Park, Md. Wednesday night. The Retrievers fell to 4-10 on the season as the Terps improved to 11-12.
Sophomore Rick Phillips (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), making his first start of the season, drove in freshman Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) in the top of the seventh for the Retrievers' only run of the game. Freshman Justin Lamborn (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnett Valley) had a two-hit day raise his average on the season to .333.
The Terps were led by Mike Murphy, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a home run and A.J. Casario, who was 3-for-5 with a RBI.
Sophomore starter Marty Zawacki (Hebron, Md./James Bennett) (1-1), took the loss, allowing two hits in two innings pitched with one strikeout. Maryland starter Brett Harman (2-2) struck out eight without allowing a run in six innings to earn the win.
