– UMBC's women's soccer senior Lori Quintavalle (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) returned to her home state on Tuesday afternoon to give the Retrievers an offensive boost, scoring two goals as UMBC rallied past Rider for the 2-1 win in women's soccer action. With the win UMBC moves to 1-5 on the season while Rider drops to 3-3-2.
The Retrievers fell behind in the first half at the 11:19 marker when Sarah Artale scored on a cross pass from teammate Tami Coyle to give the Broncs a 1-0 lead. The Broncs kept the pressure on the Retrievers, out shooting UMBC 9-1 in the first period, but could only get one shot passed Retriever goal minder Robin Babaris (Ontario, Canada/Sir Oliver Mowat), who made four first-half saves and seven for the game.
After being down by one a the break, Quintavalle didn't take long in the second half to put in the equalizer, netting a shot from five yards out off an assist by Carolynn Patton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) just over six minutes into the second half.
Quintavalle broke the 1-1 tie with 23:40 left in the game, this time knocking in the game-winner off an assist by Jessic Golibart (Olney, Md./Good Counsel), giving the Retrievers the 2-1 win.
Rider's goal tender Erin Wolleon made three saves in the game as the Broncs out shot the Retrievers 13-7.
The Retrievers return home for a Sunday, October 5 showdown against Howard at 2 p.m. at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
