BALTIMORE - Earlier this week UMBC Athletics welcomed three new staff members to its administration team. Karin Torchia was named Senior Associate AD, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Anjuwon Spence was named Associate AD, Development & Revenue Generation, and Cierra Brown was named Executive Assistant to the Athletic Director. 

Torchia, an experienced Division I administrator, comes to Hilltop Circle after serving as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, External Operations & Development/Senior Woman Administrator at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. since 2005. Torchia has been at Rider since 2000, first serving as the Associate Director of Athletics, External Operations & Development. She also served as an Adjunct Professor in the Masters in Athletic Leadership program at the University. A two-time graduate of West Virginia University, Torchia started her career in athletics working in the Atlantic 10 Conference Office before moving over to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference from 1995-2000.

Tucker for the opportunity to serve as Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Deputy Title IX Coordinator," said Torchia. "From the beginning of the interview process, it was clear that UMBC is a place with a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and the holistic development of student-athletes. I look forward to partnering with Tiffany, the leadership team, coaches, staff, alumni, and the campus community to build on the department's momentum. I'm also excited about helping to provide an outstanding experience for our student-athletes while advancing Tiffany's mission and vision of Retriever Athletics."

After nearly three years in the DMV working with Georgetown University and University of Maryland, Spence joins the Retrievers to head development & revenue generation. Spence recently served as the General Manager -- Sales & Service for Georgetown and Legends Global, overseeing all revenue generation efforts. He spent the prior two years as the Director of Sales -- Ticketing, Premium & Fundraising with Maryland and Legends Global. Spence's other stops include two years as the Manager, Ticket Sales at Penn State University and five years as the Assistant Director, Ticket Sales & Operations at George Washington. A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, Spence earned his Master's from Georgetown.

Tucker, and the search committee for their confidence in me and for the opportunity to contribute to the department's vision. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our alumni, donors, campus partners, and supporters while helping grow resources and create lasting impact for our student-athletes. I'm grateful to be part of the UMBC team and excited to get started.

Brown joins the Retrievers after serving in various roles at Coppin State and in the DMV after graduating from Delaware State. Brown's roles at Coppin State included Director of Football Operations, SWA Special Assistant/Special Events Coordinator, and MEAC Volleyball Tournament Director. Brown has also worked with the DC Defenders (XFL), the Baltimore Ravens, and Baltimore City Recreation & Parks.
