This Week in #RetrieverNation: 9/28- 10/4

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1

Women's Soccer at NJIT | 7 pm | Newark, N.J. | Watch | Live Stats

UMBC seeks its second straight America East victory as it travels North to take on the Highlanders. The Retrievers have won seven games for the first time since 2014, when the Dawgs finished 12-4-3. UMBC is currently ranked a league-best 167th in the latest NCAA RPI rankings and owns the best winning percentage in the America East (.667). Freshman forward Brooke Clagett was named the AE Rookie of the Week for the second time this season this past Monday. NJIT was blanked 2-0 at UAlbany this past Sunday after defeating New Hampshire in their conference opener.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2

Men's & Women's Cross Country @ Paul Short Invitational | 11 am (Men), 11:45 am (Women) | Bethlehem, PA | Follow

The Retrievers are back in action for the first time since competing in the Cantello Invitational at Navy on September 12. The 52nd annual Paul Short Invitational is held on the campus of Lehigh University at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. Georgetown is the defending champion on the men's side, while Villanova captured the women's event in 2025.

Men's Soccer at #25 Bryant | 7 pm | Providence, RI | Watch | Live Stats

The Dawgs will be looking to stop a two-game losing streak when they travel to No. 25 ranked Bryant.  In their most recent outing, a second-half spurt pushed the UMass Lowell River Hawks past UMBC, 3-2, last Saturday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.  The Retrievers looked the better side for much of the match, leading 1-0 into the 58th minute, before a River Hawk flurry resulting in three goals in just over three minutes gave UMass Lowell an America East victory. Nico Banks and Flynn Holdem scored goals for the Retrievers.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3

Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving vs. American/VMI | 1 pm | UMBC Aquatic Center | Watch | Pink T-Shirt Giveaway
The Dawgs open the season against American and VMI on Family Weekend. The men's squad dominated over four days and won the America East Swimming & Diving Championship last season. The title was the Retrievers 15th in 20 seasons of America East competition, and first since 2023. The women's team placed fourth in 2026.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4

Women's Soccer vs. UAlbany | 1 pm | Retriever Soccer Park | Watch | Live Stats | Tickets

The Retrievers stopped a 10-game winless streak (0-8-2) against UAlbany last season when they defeated the Great Danes, 1-0, in Albany. Grace Dunbar scored an unassisted goal just 2:04 into the second half. UAlbany defeated NJIT last Sunday and is currently 1-1 in conference play.

Volleyball vs. NJIT | 3 pm | Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena | Watch | Live Stats | Tickets
The Retrievers opened the America East season with victories at UAlbany and Bryant last weekend. After a sensational weekend, the AE named junior Hannah Dobbs Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Dobbs was nearly perfect in a sweep on Sunday at Bryant, tallying 17 kills on .571 hitting with only one error and nine digs. She opened the weekend with 15 kills and nine digs in a five-set win at UAlbany, and over the two games, she hit 388 while averaging 4.00 kills and 2.25 digs per set. NJIT enters the contest at 1-14, and the Dawgs have won all 15 matches in the all-time series.
