Box Score Albany, NY – The UMBC Baseball team picked up their first conference sweep of the season after winning against UAlbany, 8-6, on Sunday afternoon.
The Great Danes walked the bases loaded in the first inning before Danny Orr singled through the right side to score Dylan Melton. Derek Paris flew out to right field to score Anthony Mascuilli to take a 2-0 lead.
The Retrievers would add another run in the second inning with a sac fly from Melton to score Kyle Eddington.
UAlbany tied the game in the fourth inning before UMBC took back the lead in the sixth. Eddington singled with a bunt to score Orr and then Brooks Henderson singled through the left side to score Paris to make it 5-3.
The Great Danes would take the lead in the seventh inning before the Retrievers would tie it at six in the eighth inning with Jesiah Carpenter picking up an RBI.
Mascuilli and Ehi Okojie singled to start the ninth inning. Danny Wyatt sac bunted to move the runners before Orr singled to center to score both runners to make it 8-6.
Orr led the offense with two hits, three RBI, and a run scored. Okojie, Paris, Eddington, and Henderson each had two hits. Melton and Mascuilli also picked up a hit for the Retrievers.
Brady Fox picked up his second win on the mound for the Retrievers pitching 2.2 innings with five strikeouts. Kailen Hackmann got the save in the ninth inning for the Retrievers.
The UMBC Baseball team will face George Washington on Tuesday at Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
