Last time out, Danny Orr picked up three hits and six RBI in the first three innings as the visiting Retrievers won a 24-14 slugfest against Coppin State at Joe Cannon Stadium on Tuesday.

The Dawgs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on an Orr three-run triple in the first, and then exploded for six runs in the second. An RBI grounder by Carver Salazar was misplayed allowing Jesiah Carpenter, who hit a leadoff triple, to score and make it 4-0. After Salazar got to third on an error, he scored on an Anthony Mascuilli sacrifice fly to make it 5-0, before Danny Orr ripped a two-RBI double three batters later. Carpenter finished the scoring for the inning with a two-run single that made it 9-0.

UMBC tacked on three more in the third as Mascuilli was hit by a pitch and would score on an Ehi Okojie double, his third hit in three innings. Danny Wyatt and Orr then hit back-to-back RBI doubles to make it 12-0.

Coppin State scored one in the third and five in the fourth to cut the deficit in half, but the Dawgs responded with four in the fifth. Mascuilli and Luke Buscaglia each drew a bases loaded walk, another run would score on a balk and Wyatt added an RBI single to push the lead to 16-6.

The Eagles once again responded with five in the bottom of the fifth to make it 16-11, and it remained that way until the seventh when the Retrievers added six insurance runs. Mascuilli had an RBI single, Nico Ong reached on an RBI error, and Derek Paris followed with an RBI single of his own. With the bases loaded, Kyle Eddington was hit by a pitch and Jacob Bagania walked, before Brooks Henderson gave UMBC a 22-11 lead with a sacrifice fly.

The hosts again countered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth, but the Retrievers once again answered in the ninth when Eddington hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a Bagania walk, stole third and scored on another Henderson sacrifice fly. Bagania then made it 24-14 when he scored on a Zach Hampton sacrifice fly.

Bennett Speicher picked up his first win at UMBC by tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Chris Harbert worked a perfect ninth, ending the game with a strikeout.

All 15 Retrievers who made a plate appearance reached safely, with 10 picking up at least one hit and five having multi-hit games.
