Last time out, Redshirt freshman Dylan Melton went 4-for-6 to continue the hot start to his career as the UMBC Baseball team picked up its first win of 2026 with a 12-7 victory at Georgetown on Wednesday night.

Melton scored two runs also drove in a pair on an eighth inning double that proved to be the difference. Kyle Eddington was the other Retriever with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

UMBC got on the board in the first via a two-run error, and then plated another in the second on an RBI grounder from Jesiah Carpenter. The lead became 5-0 in the fourth after Eddington scored on a double play, followed by Ehi Okojie plating Carpenter on an RBI single.

Georgetown would get a run back in the fourth and two in the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-3, but the Dawgs broke the game open with a seven run eighth.

Anthony Mascuilli was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then ended up scoring after a Jacob Bagania walk, and error on a pick-off and a wild pitch. After Eddington and Carpenter walked to load the bases, Melton hit his two run double to make it 8-3, and that was followed by a two-run single from Danny Orr to push the lead to 10-3.

Orr would score on a two-out error to make it 11-3, and then Bagania would eventually make it 12-3 with an RBI single of his own. Georgetown would plate four in the bottom half of the inning, but could get no closer the rest of the way.

Carpenter drew a game-high three walks and scored three runs, and nine of the 10 Retrievers with a plate appearance had at least one hit.

Owen Shaprow was stellar in his first career start on the mound, tossing three hitless innings while striking out three. Sergio Droz entered with the tying run at the plate in a 5-3 game in the seventh and got a strikeout to end the threat.
