Women's Track & Field Earns Three Medals on Day One of America East Indoor Championships

BOSTON – Katie Schwaner, Ava Roberts and the Distance Medley Relay team of Lily Strelecki, Faith Akinlami, Katelyn Deal and Lyna Beraich all medaled as the UMBC Women's Indoor Track & Field opened the America East Championships on Friday.

The DMR team earned silver with a season-best performance, crossing the line in 11:42.20, while Schwaner set a school record and won silver with a time of 2:49.95 in the 1000.

Ava Roberts set a new career-high with a throw of 18.01m to earn the bronze, while teammate Marie Abongwa used a throw of 17.48 to finish fourth in the event.

Winter Evans and Enazajah Young each had good runs in the 60 hurdles prelims to qualify for tomorrow's final. Young and Lily Bandy also qualified for Saturday's 60m final, while Dalyce Schmidt and Leanne McDonald qualified for the 400 dash final.

Anna Creel, Madisyn Bobb, Jayda Solomon and Bandy all qualified for the 200 dash final.

The final day of the America East Championships begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday
