Women's Lacrosse Travels to La Salle on Wednesday Afternoon

Last Time Out: Knapp Produces Five Goals in Loss at Bucknell
  • Sophomore attackman Emily Knapp tied a career high with five goals and added an assist, but the UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-10 decision against the Bucknell Bison on Friday afternoon.
  • Junior Emma O'Callaghan scored off an assist from sophomore Annika Wray at 13:26 of the opening quarter to knot the game at 1-1. It was the final time the game would be deadlocked, as the hosts scored twice to make it 3-1 with 12:30 remaining in the frame.
  • Knapp, who has already produced 55 goals in just 18 career contests, recorded her first tally of the afternoon to bring the visitors within 3-2 with 11:42 left as senior Lizzie Bateman was credited with an assist. However, Bucknell rattled off four straight goals to extend the lead to 7-2 with 2:02 left.
  • Sophomore Tess Curtis (two assists) found the back of the net off a setup from Knapp to cut the deficit to 7-3, but Megan Krestinski answered with thirty-six ticks left to spot the Bison an 8-3 edge after the opening quarter.
  • Bucknell scored the first four goals of the second quarter to widen their lead to 12-3 with 2:03 left before intermission. Sophomore Reese Macintosh was able to put in a free position goal just before the break to bring the Dawgs within 12-4.
  • The Bison put the game away in the third quarter as they outscored UMBC by a 6-2 margin to grab an 18-6 advantage.  Knapp scored both Retriever goals in the period.
  • UMBC (1-1) dominated the fourth quarter as they blanked the Bison by a 4-0 count.  Knapp added two more goals to her ledger, and Bateman and sophomore Mya Stewart-Parsons also found the back of the net.
  • Krestinski scored seven goals and added three assists to lead the Bison, who improved to 2-0. Caroline Sheridan added four goals, and Caleigh Cummiskey chipped in with a hat trick.
  • Freshman Madyson Hamilton came off the bench in the opening quarter and made three saves in 38:24 of action. Bella Crowley made nine saves in three quarters for the Bison.
  • Senior Ella Killian played a strong defensive game as the tri-captain recorded four caused turnovers and added three ground balls and three draw controls.
  • UMBC held a 30-29 edge in total shots and won 17-of-30 draws.
 About La Salle
  • The Explorers are coming off a 16-6 victory against Howard this past Saturday in Philadelphia.  Emi Waldron scored a game-high five goals while Kate Licciardi and Mia Riccitelli added hat tricks.
  • Waldron paces the Explorers in goals (12) and points (14).
  • Licciardi has five goals and four assists and is second on the squad with nine points.
  • Sam Klein (6 goals, 2 assists), Molly Maloney (5 goals, 2 assists), and Mia Riccitelli (5 goals) have contributed to the balanced scoring attack.
  • Goalie Mary Babbage has started all three contests and has yielded 8.73 goals per game while recording a .542 saves percentage.
  • Babbage leads the squad with 12 ground balls and has added four caused turnovers.
Series History
  • UMBC holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 2014.
  • The Retrievers have won four straight contests and have outscored the Explorers by a combined 69-22 total.
  • Last season, the Dawgs cruised to an 18-3 victory at UMBC Stadium. Katana Nelson produced five goals while Emily Knapp (4 goals) and Tess Curtis (3 goals) recorded hat tricks.
  • La Salle's lone win was a 10-9 overtime triumph in Baltimore in 2015.
Head Coach Amy Slade
  • 2021 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee Amy (Appelt) Slade is in her 14th season at the helm of the Retrievers and 17th overall with the program. Slade served as a co-head coach for her first two seasons at the head of the program after being hired as an assistant coach in August of 2009.
  • Slade had a career record of 105-95 (.525). 
  • She enjoyed 11-win seasons in 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2024-25.
  • Slade, who won the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy and led the University of Virginia to a national championship in 2004, joined the UMBC women's lacrosse staff in August 2009.  She was inducted into the 2020 class of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame after an illustrious career with the Cavaliers where she was a four-time All-American at Virginia, where she set school records for career goals (258) and points (373) and ranks second in career assists (115). Her goals and points totals are in the top-10, respectively, in the NCAA Division I record books, and she set an NCAA record by scoring a goal in 66 straight games.
 Preseason Honors
  • The America East Conference announced its Preseason All-Conference Team and Preseason Coaches' Poll in January.  Sophomore attacker Emily Knapp, senior defender Ella Killian, and sophomore midfielder Tess Curtis were all recognized by the league's coaches.
  • Knapp burst upon the season in 2025 after earning a redshirt in 2024 and was named the America East Rookie of the Year. Knapp was second in the league with 4.25 points per game (68 points) and finished fifth with 2.94 goals per game (47 goals). She has also added 21 assists, 24 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers. Knapp was the third Retriever to be named Rookie of the Year and the first since 2022.
  • The speedy and fearless Killian is a significant reason why UMBC ranked 15th in the country in clearing percentage. Killian, who finished sixth on the circuit with 4.44 draw controls per game, also compiled 24 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers.
  • Curtis ranked seventh on the squad with 20 points (18 goals, two assists). She recorded hat tricks against La Salle and New Hampshire in her first season as a Retriever.
2025 Rewind
  • UMBC finished the 2025 season with an 11-5 record and has been picked to finish fifth out of seven teams this year. Last season, the Dawgs placed fourth with a 3-3 conference record
