BALTIMORE - UMBC Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Tiffany D. Tucker was named to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee, effective September 1.
"I am deeply honored to have been selected for this important committee and entrusted with representing our conference at the national level, said Tucker. "This opportunity carries tremendous responsibility, and I look forward to using my experience, perspective, and leadership to help shape the future of the game that has given so much."
Tucker, a former Division I basketball player and graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, also spent a portion of her career coaching the game she loves. Tucker served on coaching staffs at Allegheny College, Radford University, Francis Marion University, and Claflin University before transitioning to administration. As an administrator, Tucker served on the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee, helping to guide member schools in implementing experimental and permanent rules for the sport. As the Deputy Athletic Director at UNC Wilmington, Tucker was named the 2022 Women Leaders in College Sports Nell Jackson Executive of the Year.
Tucker's career has also seen her act as the President of WeCoach, a one-of-a-kind nonprofit membership organization dedicated to recruiting, advancing, and retaining women coaches in all sports and levels through year-round professional growth & leadership development programs.
In 2025-26, the Retrievers secured four America East Conference titles, hoisting the trophy in volleyball, men's swimming & diving, women's indoor track & field, and men's basketball. UMBC sent its volleyball and basketball programs to the NCAA Tournament, while three individuals (Ashley Gutshall, Iosif Papa, and Ava Roberts) secured individual placements in the NCAA Championships in their respective sports. The Retrievers placed second in the Stuart P. Haskell Jr., Commissioner's Cup, the best finish in history.
Academically, UMBC student-athletes combined to post a cumulative GPA of 3.38 across 17 programs. The women's swimming & diving program and the women's lacrosse program finished in the top 10 in the conference in percentage of athletes selected for the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll, awarded to student-athletes with a 3.5 or higher GPA. 46 student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams in 2025-26, with Ricky Schissler (men's soccer) becoming the 28th Academic All-American in school history.
