UMBC Athletics is saddened to recently learn of the passing of former Retriever Student-Athlete and broadcaster Troy Green '97. 

Green, who was a member of the Track & Field team his freshman year, worked as a broadcaster for the Retriever basketball programs, specifically the Women's Basketball program, for several years after graduation before stepping away in 2020. 

Troy attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools and was a 1993 graduate of Old Mill High School. Earning a full scholarship to UMBC and graduating in 1997 as a Rhodes Scholar with a Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Georgia.

As an avid sports fan, Troy obtained a mentorship at WBAL – Baltimore Channel 11 under the tutelage of Gerry Sandusky. That mentorship paved the way for his expansion as a Public Relations Specialist. He became the face of: AAA National, Department of Transportation (NHTSA), National Association of Realtors (NAR), and Wilson Sonsini.

On September 8, 2009, Troy was united in marriage to Trina R. Myers. From this union one child was born, Isaiah Troy Green, and 2 daughters united, Diamond K. & Jewel K. Golston.
