The UMBC Volleyball team will look to get back into the win column as it heads to the D.C. area for three road contests this weekend. The Retrievers are at George Washington on Friday at 6 p.m., George Mason on Saturday at 4 p.m., and Georgetown on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Last time out, UMBCÂ (1-4) gave Big Ten Maryland all it could handle on Sunday, before dropping a tough four-setter (24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 28-26) on Sunday in front of 1,023 fans at The Peake.
Jalynn Brown led all players with 18 kills and added nine digs, four blocks, two assists and an ace.Â
Serin Maden was named to the All-Tournament Team after contributing 22 assists and seven digs in a split role at setter.
Claudia Llamas continued her hot start to the season with 14 kills, four blocks and two aces, whileÂ
Jada James tallied nine kills, seven digs, three blocks and a pair of assists.
Laura Fuehrer had her second 10 block performance of the weekend, andÂ
Izzy Ostvig filled the stat sheet with 15 assists, four kills, four blocks and an ace.Â
Ema Djordjevic tallied six digs a block and an ace, whileÂ
Ella McAllister had four digs.
Scouting GW:
- GW Volleyball rolled past Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, 3-1, earning a win in the first of this fall's Monumental Matchup series.Â
- Cianna Tejada returned to the starting lineup and brought a strong offensive presence, putting down 12 kills and chipping in three blocks at the net.Â
-  Cayla Cogan also swung for 12 kills at the pin to propel GW's attack.Â
- Abby Markworth stepped up as the team's setter, feeding the attack with 29 assists and dishing out three kills.Â
- As a team, the Buff & Blue outhit Georgetown, 46-42.Â
Scouting George Mason:
- George Mason pushed Air Force to five sets but came up just short, falling 3-2 (14-25, 25-21, 25-19, 16-25, 12-15) on Sunday afternoon at Wesley A. Brown Field House. With the result, the Patriots moved to 3-3 on the season.
- Meredith Brown turned in one of her best performances of the season, posting 10 kills on .444 hitting while adding five blocks for 12.5 pointsÂ
- Kiera Hamilton tallied a team-high 15 kills to go with nine digs and two aces, finishing with 18 points
-  Nia Thompson contributed 14 kills, 14 digs, and 16 points.
- Chelsea Colter was a force at the net with six kills and six blocks
- Ava Cheney dished out 26 assists with three blocks
- Autumn Martinez-Robinson paced the back line with a match-high 19 digs
Scouting Georgetown:
- The Hoyas defeated the Coppin State Eagles, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-27, 25-21), on Wednesday night at the Reitz Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. With the win, GU improves to 2-5 on the season
- Dionna Mitchell led the Hoya attack with a team-high 15 kills, while Katherine McGregor added 12, with a team-best .375 hitting percentage, and Maria Filippova chipped in 10.
- Juleigh Urbina led with two service aces, while Kamryn Lee-Caracci and Mitchell added one each.
- Lee-Caracci and Berkeley Ploder each notched five blocks, which led the team.
- Urbina paced the Hoya offense with 30 assists, closely followed by Natalie Nguyen with 20.
- Mitchell recorded a team-high 13 digs for the GU defense.
