Buffalo, N.Y. -- The UMBC Volleyball team rallied from two sets down, but ultimately fell in five sets to host Buffalo (26-24, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, 15-5) on Friday night.
Hannah Dobbs led the Retrievers with 20 kills and added 10 digs, while
Alissa Grant continued to impress early on in her career with 15 kills on .385 hitting and five blocks.
Claudia Llamas added 10 kills and five blocks for UMBC who fell for the first time this season.
Buffalo staged a late rally in the first set to go up 1-0, and then held off a ferocious UMBC rally in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. UMBC took the third set comfortable, and then rallied to close the fourth set on a 10-3 run, but the Bulls jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fifth and the Retrievers could not catch up.
Isabel Ostvig had a double-double with 43 assists and 14 digs, and
Hannah Howard had a match-best 17 digs.
Natalie Harris saw the first action of her career and had five digs, a kill and an ace.
The Retrievers continue play in Buffalo as the make the short trip to Canisius for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
