Baseball Heads to UAlbany for Final Road Series of the Season

The UMBC Baseball team will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as it plays a pivotal three game series at America East foe UAlbany this weekend.  Due to weather and field conditions, the series has been moved to nearby Bard College in Annandale-on Hudson, NY. The series begins with 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and closes with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.

Probable Starters:

G1: RHP Nick Remy (7-1, 2.55 ERA) vs RHP Dylan Banner (5-4, 3.22 ERA)

G2: LHP Eddie Sargent (1-2, 6.04 ERA) vs LHP Aidan Gelbsman (0-1, 3.46 ERA)

G3: LHP Logan Wiley (0-1, 4.93 ERA) vs RHP Ethan Nardacci (1-3, 7.39 ERA)

Last time out,  Danny Wyatt sent the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth over the left field fence to give the UMBC Baseball team a dramatic, come-from-behind, 6-5 win over visiting NJIT in the series finale on Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Sargent had the best start of his carrer, and of the season, going 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs while striking out four. Nick Remy worked the final 2.1 innings to get the win and improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Retrievers answered right back after back-to-back doubles from Anthony Mascuilli and Leewood Molessa, followed by a sacrifice fly from Danny Orr.

It remained 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Derek Paris walked with one out and went to second on a ground out. Nick Pratt then smacked a pinch-hit go ahead single, and that was followed by a Jesiah Carpenter RBI double to make it 3-1 Dawgs.

Sargent was lifted after allowing a two-out single int he top of the seventh, but NJIT would take the lead after a pair of hit-batters and a grand slam.

It was 5-3 until the bottom of the eighth when Nolan Kutney singled and was lifted for pinch-runner Luke Buscaglia, before Carpenter worked a walk. After a successful double steal, Mascuilli hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-4, and Molessa then tied the game when he beat out a throw on a grounder.

Remy worked a scoreless top of the ninth before Wyatt's heroics in the bottom half of the inning.
