Last time out,  Derek Paris hit a tie-breaking two-run home run in the eighth inning to help propel visiting UMBC to a 5-2 win at Maryland on Tuesday night.

The Retrievers have now won two consecutive games against the Big Ten foe, marking their first victory at Maryland in nearly 20 years. (since 4/6/05).

It was the second time in four days that Paris hit a late tie-breaking homer, as his solo homer in the 10th on Saturday gave UMBC a 4-3 victory at Georgetown.

Leewood Molessa had a pair of RBI singles, while Kyle Eddington added an RBI single of his own. Jesiah Carpenter had two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Nick Pratt and Luke Buscaglia also had hits for the Retrievers.

Six UMBC pitchers combined to shut down the Terps, who could muster only two hits and who only scored on a fourth inning two-run home run. Sergio Droz started and worked two scoreless innings, followed by a scoreless inning from Ayden Gonzalez. Emmett Tolis would be the fourth pitcher used as he entered with one on and one out in the fourth and ended up working 1.2 scoreless. Sam Bell then entered and worked a scoreless sixth, before an error and a walk led to Nick Remy entering with two on and one out in the seventh. Remy would escape by striking out the first two batters he faced to keep the game tied after seven, and would eventually earn the win by retiring eight of the nine batters he faced without allowing a hit.

UMBC took a 1-0 lead in the third when Carpenter singled, stole second and scored on Molessa's first RBI single, but the Terps would take a 2-1 lead in the fourth via the homer. The Retrievers tied it up in the sixth on Eddington's two-out RBI single that scored Paris. UMBC took the lead for good in the eighth when Danny Orr was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Paris blasted his third homer of the season with one out to make it 4-2.

The final run of the game came in the ninth when Carpenter ripped a one out single, stole second again, and once again would score on a Molessa RBI single.
